It's really easy to register for the CS / SPD Course.  There are only 3 simple steps:


  1. Click on the Registration Button located on the upper right corner of the navigation bar.
  2. On the Registration page print out the Registration Form.
  3. Fill out the Registration Form and mail with payment to the address on the form.


Note:  It is recommended that you call the number on the form to notify us when you send the registration form, seating is limited and is on a first come, first serve basis


 

  1. Must be at least 18 years of Age.
  2. Have a High School Diploma or GED.
  3. Pass a background check.


Note: There are additional requirements for the Externship / Volunteer Program ( Recommended, not required ).


 The CS / SPD Course is approximately 24 Weeks. 


The classes are only one day a week.  There are morning, evening and weekend classes available. 


 

The total cost of the CS / SPD Course is $700.00 (This includes the Deposit).

This includes the following: 

  1. Tuition
  2. Certificate of Completion
  3. Certification Exam Review

Note: After the $100.00 Deposit is submitted at registration, the remaining balance is then $600.00 and is to be paid $25.00 weekly for 24 weeks.


 

The Central Service / Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician is responsible for Cleaning, Decontamination, Inspection, Assembly, Packaging and Sterilization of Surgical Instruments, Storage, Handling and Distribution of Sterile and Non-Sterile Medical Products also to include Inventory Control and Cost Management.


In simple terms, a bulk of what they do is basically recieve surgical instruments used in surgery and process and sterilize them for reuse.  They also put together a bin or cart with almost all the supplies and surgical instruments and trays for all the surgical procedures.


 

Upon completion of the CS / SPD Course with a final grade of 70% or better you are awarded a Certificate of Completion for the Program and are then eligible to sit for the Certification Exam.  Graduates of the Program are strongly encouraged to take the Certification Examination through either CBSPD or IAHCSMM.

The Certification through either CBSPD or IAHCSMM is recognized throughout the entire United States and recognized all over ther world.  Both Certifications are Internationally recognized. 


 Currently in the state of Florida it is not mandatory to be certified to work in CS / SPD, however many hospitals do require certification to be eligible for hire.  Generally, Certified Technicians are paid more. 


 CS / SPD Technicians can work in General Medical & Surgical Hospitals, Outpatient Care Centers, Clinics, Surgical Centers, Specialty Hospitals, Physician's Offices as well as Dental Offices. 


 

According to the U.S. Bureau or Labor Statistics the national median annual wage for this occupation is $30,820.00.


There are different factors in the amount a CS / SPD Technician can earn.  Aside from regional location, the size of the healthcare facility also plays a role.  Typically, the larger the hospital the more you will earn.  Graduates with Certification can reasonably start off between $13 - $15 / hour.  (See Map Below).

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment Outlook, it is projected that the demand for Central Service / Sterile Processing & Distribution Technicians will experience a growth rate of 17% through 2020.
